Autonomous Audi almost matches veteran race car drivers' lap times

Shelley, Stanford’s autonomous Audi TTS, has maneuvered Pike’s Peak and has a best lap time at Thunderhill Raceway a few seconds slower than a professional race car driver.  Associate Professor in Mechanical Engineering, Chris Gerdes is the project leader of Shelley and the Revs Program’s research on pairing the mechanical sensor data with the biological feedback from the professional drivers who raced a 1966 Ford GT40 at Laguna Seca in August.   Read Full Article
